July 2017 Garden News

July has been one big blur; I have never known a month to go so fast. I suppose that’s what happens when you are busy.
Who said retirement was relaxing?

We are two months into winter and have only lit our wood fire twice; it has been a very warm winter, so I suppose this summer will be full of bugs eating all our plants.
We started off the month by hosting a large bus group from ‘Logan City garden Club’ then of course went to our favourite garden show at Nambour where I bought myself a battery powered Sthil pole saw at 20% off.

Following that we visited ‘Ormeo Garden Club’ for a presentation.
Then the next week was a visit to a retirement village at Murrumba Downs where I gave a presentation.
Our son and his family returned from a holiday in Switzerland so we hosted them for a few days and were able to give Celeste a party for her fifth birthday.

In the meanwhile we had decided to redo the floor coverings in our entry, hall, kitchen, family and rumpus rooms. All the furniture including fridges ect had to be shifted.

Then a great tradesman came and stripped all the old vinyl and tiles and diamond grinded the floor ready for the tiler.
The tiler had a real headache as the tiles were different sizes and had to follow a strict pattern; anyway he was also a great tradesman and did a fantastic job.

So two weeks later we were able to get back to a normal life and not having to rough it.
We then went to ‘Beenleigh Garden Club’ to do a presentation and then that same week one to ‘Ferny Grove Garden Club’.

So as you can see we have been very busy.
Probably the biggest job in the garden was to cut back all four Carambola trees, a big job with lot's of climbing and sawing.

Unfortunately I think my new Silky Saw went to the dump along with all the branches, pity as it was a Christmas present from Judy.
I am afraid I have not done much else in the garden this month and it badly needs watering as July was very dry and warm.

My next job in the garden is to repot my Amorphophallus collection.
